Every fall, millions of people head to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to experience everything the area has to offer during this wonderful season. Located minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Pigeon Forge is home to picture perfect autumn scenery. Additionally, fall brings a number of special annual events to the Smokies. To help you make the most of your getaway, Cherokee Lodge Condos has put together a guide to four of our favorite ways to enjoy fall in Pigeon Forge TN:
1. Go Leaf Peeping
With 100 species of native trees in the Smokies, Pigeon Forge is famous for its spectacular fall foliage. Whether you take advantage of the 800 + miles of hiking trails in the national park, or go for a scenic drive through the mountains, you will have the chance to admire breathtaking yellow, orange, and red leaves.
Predicting exactly when “peak season” occurs for the fall colors is difficult, because the leaves change depending on each year’s weather patterns. Typically, however, the leaves are at their best in the lower elevations of the mountains during the last two weeks of October and the first week of November. In the higher elevations, such as Clingmans Dome, the leaves change during late September and early October. If you need advice for syncing your trip with the fall foliage, feel free to give the friendly staff at Cherokee Lodge a call!
2. Check Out the Car Shows
Car shows are some of the most popular events going on this fall in Pigeon Forge TN. The Shades of the Past car show in September showcases an impressive collection of hot rods, customs, and classics that were built in 1972 or earlier. Soon after Shades of the Past, the city will host the Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run. Featuring tons of classic cars, an enormous swap meet, and a $10,000 cash giveaway, the Fall Rod Run attracts thousands of visitors each year.
3. Sample Fall Flavors at the Apple Barn and The Old Mill
Fall is apple season, which means that the Apple Barn Village is a can’t-miss destination for your vacation! This wonderful shopping and dining complex has its own orchard and offers a seemingly endless selection of freshly made apple treats. Some of our favorite items include apple cider, fried apple pies, apple butter, apple cinnamon bread, and a variety of apple wines.
Of course, fall is also a great time to enjoy pumpkin flavored dishes. The Old Mill Square is the perfect place to pick up some mouthwatering pumpkin confections, such as pumpkin butter, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin spice pancake mix. When you stay at Cherokee Lodge, you will be just a five minute walk from all of the delicious seasonal food at The Old Mill!
